Konecranes provides mobile port crane technology to new Georgian customer

Feb 08, 2021

Transford Co., Ltd. (Transford) ordered two high-efficiency, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly Konecranes Gottwald port gantry cranes in the third quarter of 2020 for its business operations at the Port of Poti on the southwest coast of Georgia near the Black Sea. The crane will be delivered and commissioned at the end of 2021 for loading and unloading containers and bulk cargo.

The two new cranes will be Konecranes Gottwald 4 port gantry cranes, belonging to the G HSK 4440 model. It has a maximum lifting capacity of up to 100 tons, a robust lifting weight curve, a maximum working radius of 46 meters, and the outreach required by a Panamax container ship. Lightweight single-arm design and ultra-high working speed help improve the efficiency of bulk cargo handling. The mast specially designed for users is equipped with 10 wheels at each corner to meet local track load requirements. The crane is equipped with an external power source, which reduces energy and maintenance costs while reducing local emissions and noise.

Transford was founded in 2010 and belongs to PACE Group (Georgia's largest transportation company), specializing in the handling and warehousing business of Poti Port. As a major port and industrial center, Poti Port is connected by railway to the capital Tbilisi, 300 kilometers away. Georgia is steadily developing into an international transportation corridor in the region. Transford specializes in container and bulk cargo handling services. With the continuous expansion of its business, Transford decided to purchase two more cranes for its four berths operating in the port.
